Facebook   admitted on Thursday  that using its social network can be bad for you in some instances. Facebook's director of research David Ginsberg and research scientist Moira Burke published a post in which they addressed questions about the impact Facebook has on our moods, and revealed some compelling information. "University of Michigan students randomly assigned to read Facebook for 10 minutes were in a  worse mood  at the end of the day than students assigned to post or talk to friends on Facebook," the blog post said. "A study from UC San Diego and Yale found that people who clicked on about four times as many links as the average person, or who liked twice as many posts, reported  worse mental health  than average in a survey." California's governor has said that deadly wildfires in the winter will be 'the new normal', as fire crews rushed to contain the fires, with dry desert winds expected to intensify over the weekend. Governor Jerry Brown on Saturday toured Ventura County neighborhoods ravaged by a weeklong wildfire that killed at least one person and destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings. At a news conference, the Democrat said drought and climate change mean California faces a 'new reality' where lives and property are continually threatened by fire, at a cost of billions of dollars. I hopped in a white van to spend a day with one driver and experience first-hand the intolerable pressures they face from “impossible” schedules. Many routinely exceed the legal maximum shift of 11 hours and finish their days dead on their feet. Yet they have so little time for food or toilet stops they snatch hurried meals on the run and urinate into plastic bottles they keep in their vans. California is typically a little ahead of the curve when it comes to adopting renewable resources and progressive environmental plans. In fact, the state is currently on track to meet its  renewable energy goals  10 years early. Its latest effort toward building a sustainable future is  a new bill  that would ban gas-powered cars by 2040. Introducing this bill is Democratic California Assembly member  Phil Ting , who represents much of San Fransisco and is also chairman of the chamber’s budget committee. If Ting’s bill became law, starting in 2040, California’s motor vehicle department would only register vehicles that didn’t produce carbon dioxide emissions. Based on currently available technology, that would mean only battery-electric or hydrogen fuel-cell cars would be permissible. Read more
